Description of Epson SureColor P5000 - 17"

  • Epson Surecolor P5000 is a 17" large format printer in a desktop model.
It prints sheets up to A2 size and rolls up to 17" or 43.2 cm.
It replaces the former Epson Stylus Pro 4900 and can be used for both photo, fine art (art print) and proofing.

Epson P5000 comes in 4 different versions, but it basically boils down to 2 different ones.
A standard (for photo and fine art) and a violet version (for proofing), both of which then also come in a version with Spectroproofer.

This model is the standard version which is used for photo and fine art printing.
It uses the ink set with Light Light Black, so you get the best possible black and white images.
The difference between the old Epson 4900 and this new Epson SureColor P5000 lies mainly in the print head that is in the printer and the ink cartridges that it uses.

What's new in Epson SureColor P5000

It's got the new Epson PrecisionCore printhead.
It is a very stable printhead with high print quality and so it gives faster print.
With the new ink technology in the new UltraChrome HDX cartridges, Epson has been able to print images and graphics at even higher densities than in previous models.
They have achieved a Dmax of 2.80.
This is particularly noticeable in black and white images, in skin tones and in transitions.

Compared to the older models, these new SureColor models have a number of new features that make it easier to get a really good result from your printer.
As a new feature, you get the Epson Colour Calibration utility, which is a small measuring device that sits in the print head.
It provides some simple calibration options to e.g. get consistent colours or match 2 printers to get the same output.
Not to be confused with a Spectroproofer or a X-Rite i1, the Colour Calibration utility is a really powerful tool.
